Development of the Mobile App for "P-Colle (P-Collection)," Japan's Largest Parking Search App, and a Nationwide Parking Data Collection Platform

Challenge

Information on parking lots and coin-operated parking nationwide is scattered across individual operators, forcing drivers to search across multiple apps and websites, making it difficult to instantly find parking near a destination that is both "easy to park in" and "reasonably priced."

  • A mechanism was needed to centrally aggregate and continuously update nationwide parking information
  • A mobile UX that lets consumers compare and choose without stress was essential
  • It would be difficult for the business alone to build in-house both the development resources for iOS/Android and a large-scale data collection platform

Solution & Team

As a contracted project, Miichisoft developed the complete P-Colle mobile app (iOS/Android) and a crawling platform that automatically collects parking data nationwide, all in one package.

  • Parking data collection (crawling): Built a platform that automatically collects and normalizes data from each parking operator's website, continuously accumulating information on approximately 150,000 parking locations nationwide.
  • Search and ranking UX: Displays rankings as pins on a map, letting users filter along four axes—"easy to park," "low price," "close distance," and "many available spaces." Pin size intuitively conveys parking capacity.
  • Parking details and navigation integration: Displays pricing, straight-line distance, number of spaces, maximum fee, and reservation availability, then guides users to the site using a navigation app.
  • Engagement features: Favorites, "My Collection" that records movement "footprints" and visit history on a map, and a "point activity" feature that earns points for using eligible parking lots.
Team: A Miichisoft development team of approximately 6 handled the mobile app (Flutter / iOS and Android) and the parking data collection platform (Python). Within a multi-company structure that also included a specialized design firm, a backend (CMS/admin screen) partner, and advisors from the client side, we worked directly with each partner throughout development. (Internal estimate: approximately 50 person-months over roughly 9 months.)
Period: 2021 – August 2022 (initial full-scale development: approx. 9 months)
Engagement: Project-based

About the Client

Sagami Oil Corporation (Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture; founded in 1950; revenue of approximately JPY 8 billion) is a company that, starting from petroleum products and LPG sales, has expanded into a diverse range of automotive-related businesses, including vehicle inspections, auto leasing, car rentals, and the 24-hour unmanned pay-parking service "Direct Park."

The app developed in this project, "P-Colle (P-Collection)," is a consumer-facing service operated by the group's Parking Science Corporation that lets users search across parking lots and coin-operated parking nationwide. Built around the concept of "park it" and "earn points," it provides an experience for quickly finding the best parking spot while also earning points.
